Almond's Nathan Adams 9'9" Model

Here's a look at the new 9'9 Nathan Adams Model from the Almond Shop. The prototype version is on display in the racks of the shop. I'm also adding in the teaser video, which is meant to wet your appetite more.

Nathan himself.

Picaresque

So... a new film is out called Picaresque. Put together in-part by my man Ty Williams, who also did the cover and artwork, but directed and produced by Mikey DeTemple, the film itself is about showcasing longboarding in a new light; getting away from the preconceived notions and turning up the tempo. When in motion, longboarding is ultra fluid, yet relatively systematic. But when its done right, it’s also utterly dynamic. With an über-talented group of 25-and-unders (let for one), spells of innovation and sickening-balance led to a blending of traditional and progressive, resulting in a universal message about the sport: logging offers few limitations.

The collaboration project between High Seas Films and Flesh Profits Nothing is about unveiling an unseen (and unappreciated) side of longboarding. Between the unique camera angles and editing, a new spin on “surf music,” and choice locations, Picaresque is a step into the new generation of surfing. Shot in Super 16mm film and High- Definition, the project took the crew around the globe, stopping in Australia, California, Florida, France, Mainland Mexico, New England, New York, and Costa Rica, presenting a range of backdrops, cultural interactions and wave faces.

Starring: Harrison Roach, Christian Wach, Scotty Stopnik, Tommy Witt, Matty Chojnacki, Chris Christenson, Mikey DeTemple, Chad Doyle, Rob Kulisek, Alek Parker, Eli, and Bucky Berry.

Alex Kopps: A Turn For The Worse

Alex Kopps
a turn for the worse.
JUNE 20TH- AUGUST 5TH 2009

MOLLUSK SURF SHOP GALLERY
4500 IRVING STREET
SAN FRANCISCO, CA 94122
WWW.MOLLUSKSURFSHOP.COM

OPENING RECEPTION:

Saturday, June 20th from 7-10pm

Mollusk Surf Shop Gallery is proud to announce our second solo show with Alex Kopps "A Turn for the Worse." Alex has been an integral part of Mollusk Family since we opened our doors in 2005 creating t-shirts, posters and art for the shop. Currently Alex has been begun work on his own homespun surf film, Displacement. The film is based around an obscure surf subculture inspired by the designs of George Greenough and later refined by Greg Liddle through his displacement hulls, or what its proponents call “stubbies.” Displacement will combine 1970s super 8 footage from “stubbie” dungeon master Steve Krajewski and the generally DIY approach to contemporary mixed media supplied by Kopps. Alex has always enjoyed challenging structure in his art, which is also evident in his filmmaking.

Alex Kopps attended school at The California College of Arts in San Francisco, where he continues to live and work as an artist. Alex's visual art consists of paintings with gouache on wood and paper with subject matter that is largely nonobjective but aesthetically has strong ties to the natural world. When in the gallery, he tends towards installation using diverse materials such as live grass, scrap wood, and sewn together US currency that he cuts into silhouette form or more recently has sewn into makeshift clothing.

Go...

...surfing this weekend, for me and celebrating my day of birth. Thanks. Love.

Surfer's Journal

So, the new Surfer's Journal is in and you should definitely check it out. I have been slacking on the updates from such an amazing publication, my apologies. But couldn't miss out on this one. Even has a section on Mr. Jeff Canham and all his happy art he does. Gravy!

And since I forgot to mention it from the last issue released... they had a gnarly spread on The Present and all it's radness. If you can get a back issue, I recommend it!

Greenroom Festival Today and Tomorrow!

Japan's top art and music festival is happening now! If only I had a boat. Frankenreiter, Mattson Two, Ray Barbee, Mishka... they all are perfoming and the art... whoa... Wegener, Tatar, T.Moe, and tons more. Once again, if I had a boat. If you are in Japan, go!

180° South

Due out sometime this year, 180° South is from the same cats that brought us so many other amazing films. I’m inspired already just from watching the trailer, it's a film about the last voyage; that hard to find adventure really is waiting around the corner for you, you just need to take that first leap and get out there. Going to be ridiculously rad! Check it here: 180° SOUTH

Mollusk's website has a new feature! A rad video series of leftover scraps from here and there by Tyler Manson. Looking into the lives of some of the most eclectic surfers round. So far they have sections on Dan Malloy (my fav) and Dane "Insane in the Membrane" Peterson. Check it!
